John Dennis David Keane was born and raised in the Bronx and currently resides in Westchester County. He finds inspiration for his writing through the experiences he had growing up and living in the Bronx for over thirty years. John went back to college in 2018 and is slowly matriculating through C.U.N.Y Hostos. This is his fifth year in the Theatherworks! program and looks forward to the class every year. John is also proud to be one of the inaugural recipients of the Mark Plesent Commission Fund.

Pete Mergel lives in N.J with his wife Debbie and daughters Megan and Caitlin. His plays Falling Up, Book Covers, Play Ball, Player of the Week, OMG, Far From the Tree, Bite Me, and ShowTime have been selected for stage reading and full productions through the country.

Daniela Poveromo was born and raised in Colombia. Sociologist with experience in Digital Marketing. Specialized in Social Media Marketing and Content Creation. Currently working in 32BJ Retirement Services Department 

Nelson Salcedo is a Bronx native with a passion for the arts. When not working with the 32BJ Benefit Funds, I enjoy taking in the culture that the city has to offer. Anything from museums to new cuisine.

Bill Buell has appeared on Broadway in Ink, Cyrano, Equus, The History Boys, Inherit the Wind, Urinetown, 42nd Street, Titanic, Tommy, Taking Steps, Big River, Annie, Once a Catholic, The First, Welcome to the Club, The Miser, and Anna Karenina. His Off-Broadway credits include The Fourth Sister, Eight Days Backwards, Andorra, Waste; Bad Habits, Queens Boulevard; Rancho Viejo, Kin, On the Bum, Picasso at the Lapine Agile, The Common Pursuit, and Tumacho. With The Public’s Shakespeare in the Park: Tartuffe, The Winter’s Tale, and Twelfth Night. Film and television include 7 Seconds, Sneaky Pete, God’s Pocket, Across the Universe, Spy Game, Welcome to the Dollhouse, The Love Letter. Anthony Delfi has been involved with The Working Theater as both a writer and performer for over 6 years. A NYC native currently residing in New Jersey, Mr. Delfi continues to refine his craft thanks to the program. This year will be the first he participates purely as an actor and he is looking forward both to the experience and performances. Past works include This Thanksgiving and Performance Enhancer. In 2022 he was the co-recipient of Mark Plesent Commision Fund (alongside Nina Riley) for which he wrote the play Let’s Try That Again. Mr. Delfi continues to refine his craft thanks in large part to the program you support today!

Sheryl Moller has worked extensively in theater, film, and television. She recently appeared in the Starz original series Sweetbitter as Leslie. This followed her film appearance as Helen in Influence (Platinum Remi Award). Other films include Welcome to Dopeland, La Primavera, Sex and Violence and The Last Day of June. In New York, Sheryl’s stage performances include Pilgrims by Elizabeth Gilbet (directed by Shira Piven), Footfalls/Not I (directed by Andre Gregory), I Am Laika, The Julia Project, Mother Land (all directed by Shira Piven, HB Playwright’s Foundation), Gilgamesh and Sister Strata (Ohio Theater) and Still waiting for Lefty (Tribecca Playhouse). In Chicago at the Blackstone Theater, Sheryl was in Juno and the Paycock, Working and The Great Race. In New York, Sheryl was a
member of Common Ground Theatre Company and founding Member of Water Theatre Company. Sheryl is thrilled to be back with the Working Theater.

Johnny Zito studied acting at New Actors Workshop under Mike Nichols, George Morrison, and their amazing faculty. Also, under Paul Sills, Aretha Sills, the Sills family, and their renowned faculty at Paul Sills’ Wisconsin Theater Game Center. Winner of two Best Actor awards: Gold Award at Mindfield Film Festival – ABQ 2017 for “à la mémoire de Lune” and Grand Jury Award for “Love Lives in a Void” at American Filmatic Arts Awards 2019. Most recent TV credit, “Moon Hoax” on “Adult Swim”. Upcoming film credits include acting alongside Lev Gorn in “Mary” and Steven Randazzo in “Lump” directed by Alexandre Rockwell. Joe Roland ( 32BJ Program Director) Joe Roland is a playwright and an actor. He has appeared in film & television, on Broadway & Off-Broadway. His play On the Line was produced at the Cherry Lane Theater by Mike Nichols, and Boyett Ostar productions and later won the Cleveland Critics Circle award for best production. For the past 10 years he has been teaching playwriting to union members through the TheaterWorks! program in collaboration with the 32BJ Training Fund and Working Theater. After moving to the Berkshires, Joe has worked with high school students through Barrington Stage Company’s Playwright Mentoring Project, something he hopes to do again in the future.

Working Theater is dedicated to producing culturally diverse plays that explore the lives of working people and the issues they confront in an increasingly complex world. Its mission is to create theater for, about, and with working people at working people’s prices. TheaterWorks! began in 2001 as a program to train working people to write and perform their own plays. Thus far, Working Theater has offered TheaterWorks! to workers at 32BJ SEIU, CWA Local 1180, TWU Local 100, DC 37, SSEU Local 371, UNITE!, and Cornell University’s School of Industry and Labor Relations.
