The People. The Party. The Protest. 40 Years Towards a Working theater.

As we embark on this momentous season in our theater’s history, we have so much to celebrate. Firstly, our community. The people who make this theater, this work, and this mission so special. Every season we show up to ensure our working-class community has a theater to meet in, learn in, and challenge each other in, where folks from all walks of life have equal access to our art form.

So let’s party! This round’s on us. There’s so much to celebrate. We’ve spent 40 years challenging what New York audiences are meant to look like, drastically changing our production models to ensure greater accessibility, and expanding our educational and community programming to create arts access for thousands of working-class New Yorkers. We could keep going, but no one likes a show-off. And now we are 40, and we’ve still got a lot of fight left in us. So lace up your boots, because this season Working Theater is showing up to work!

In our 40th season, join our next evolution, as we take on the future of the American theater. Let’s build a theater on the pillars of democracy, solidarity, and sustainability, where there is no barrier to participation in the arts, where art and audiences are part of a progressive social movement, and in which artists make a living wage and working people can make art.

It’s time to celebrate our incredible history and empower the next generation of Working artists. It’s a party. It’s a protest. It’s a theater that works for everyone.

Be a part of it. Working Theater.
